Karl Theodor Mohr

My great-great-grandfather, Karl Theodor (Charles Theodore) Mohr, was born in 1824 in Esslingen, Germany. He had a number of adventures in his life and eventually become one of the foremost botanist in the US at the end of the 1800's. At the request of the US Forestry Service, he compiled the monumental work Plant Life of Alabama, which was published shortly after his death in 1901.

These pages here are translation and compilations of a number of different documents I have found over the years. Hopefully, they will give you insight into an exciting life and an interesting man.

Another great-great grandchild of Karl Mohr, Ms. Elizabeth Burch Heston, founded and endowed the University of North Carolina Herbarium Charles T. Mohr Herbarium Internship Fund. The internship is to be used to support student interns working with mentors at the University of North Carolina Herbarium in Chapel Hill.
