Welcome to Jimmo.com

Welcome to my little corner of the Internet.

If you have been here before, then you certainly notice a major change. I reach the point where I was spending more time developing code for the front-end than adding content, so I decided to implement a portal system. Most of the content is stil available in one form or another. Personal information, such as articles about my great-great grandfather, Karl Mohr, are still here. The help desk articles are still available here but I will be moving them to my new site soon: The Opensource Datacenter.

Here you can find all sorts of information about me, what I am interested in and all sorts of things that I want to share. I run several other sites addressing many of my professional interests, so this is primarily personal stuff.

The other sites I run are:

Virus Warning

Recently email has been sent apparently from one or more addresses within the jimmo.com domain which indicate that your system may be infected with a virus. The message includes an attachment which they say is free software to clean your system of viruses. Most importantly DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHMENT as it itself is a virus (well actually a Trojan Horse). Second, the mail is not from me. To analyze the email to see where it really came from look here.

  • Never open attachments unless you personally know the sender. Even then scan it with anti-virus software.
  • Deactivate HTML in your mail software. It may look pretty, but can cause some really nasty things on your system.
  • Never reply to SPAM or viruses, as that simply confirms that your address is real.
  • Write your congress people and senators and tell them their SPAM laws are stupid. It's like being required to tell someone not to dump their garbage can on your lawn in order to stop them.

  • Spam Email

Increasingly, I have had to deal more and more with bounced email that appears to come from my domain. I get well over 100 messages every day where the sender appears to be an address in the jimmo.com domain. I can assure you that they are not from me. These SPAM messages typically have usernames like "smte50n2" or "o0l5". All of the addresses I use make some kind of sense, like "linux_info" or "corrections". They are never random characters like the other usernames. If you look at the stuff this SPAM is trying to sell, you can see that it has nothing to do with my site. It is obviously someone trying to divert attention somewhere else. In such cases, my suggestion is to address complaints to the owner of the site with the material being advertised, as they are ultimately responsible for the content.

However, if it becomes too much of a problem, please feel free to contact me and maybe we can work together to stop them. If the Return-To address has an account within the jimmo.com domain, send me the message with the complete header of the message. Do not send me just the contents as that doesn't help. We need to know the exact path that the email took.

Sorry for any problems this may have caused. However, I assure you once again that I am not sending it. Further information about spam can be found here.
Information about analyzing the E-mail message can be found here.
